Background Image & Width Issues With Samsung Email Client

Just a quick one… Litmus announced the arrival of a new Samsung preview a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd put together a few of my findings for those that are still having any issues.

Width Issues
Some of you may have noticed that your email displays with problems that are similar to those that happen within the Gmail App for Android and iOS. It adds a really ugly margin down the right hand side. The fix is really easy, just add this code at the top of your embedded style sheet. Thanks to Laurens-Jan Derijks for pointing this out in the Litmus Discussions.

Background Images
While Samsung mail supports embedded style sheets, it is certainly picky about the background and background-image rule when it’s contained within an embedded style sheet. Fear not, Samsung does support background images but it must be inline to work and the url must be in quotations as this also disregards the rule. See the problem and fix below.

Code

Originally I had a mobile-only block of code with the background specified within the embedded style sheet. This worked everywhere I tested it except Samsung mail.

Code

The fix is very easy, just put your styles inline on the div in question.
